CEAL’s Origin Story

CEAL – the Centre for Enthusiasts of Asian Languages – is an initiative grown from Japan Fans, a Utrecht based club for enthusiasts of Japanese arts and culture, founded in the midst of the 2020 COVID pandemic.
With our courses, events and website, we aim to facilitate friendship and inspiration based on our shared interests.
We are thrilled about the support of the Leidsche Rijn Library, who offer us classrooms every Friday and Sunday afternoon, Vleuterweide Library, where we have our Tuesday lessons, and BUUR, where the Indonesian studygroups meets every other Sunday.
Japan Fans is an official foundation (“stichting” in the Netherlands), and our board currently consists of:
Harro Kremer (president & treasurer)
Marieke Suppers (secretary)
Tibo van Boetzelaer (general board member)
The Japan Fans Foundation is a non-profit organisation and strives to keep its events accessible to everyone. To achieve this, we invite everyone to make a voluntary contribution so that we can cover the costs of our events, ensuring that no one is unable to participate due to financial constraints.

CONTRIBUTE

At CEAL, we try to keep the costs of our activities to zero for wider accessibility. Although, as a collaborative community is our biggest asset, we also take into account and respect the many ideas of our community to facilitate more special events—but we can’t do it without your support!
Every little donation makes a difference, and it is your trust and generosity that helps us organize many of the interactive programs to develop a deeper cultural awareness of Japan and serve as a second home to many individuals.
We would also like to thank and show our appreciation to the valuable contributions and hard work of volunteers that help us sustain a diverse program of events and lectures related to the Japanese arts, culture and history.
With your crucial support, we look forward to keep organising many exciting events in the future and help us continue our vision to create a place for arts, culture, and community.
