WORKSHOPS

Every year, on Kodomo no Hi, our Japan Fans group organises activities for children.

At CEAL, we believe in the power of learning and creating together. Our workshops bring people closer through shared experiences, combining art, culture, and mindfulness with genuine joy and connection.

We offer workshops for a wide variety of settings — from community centres and museums to hospitals, schools, and private groups. Previous examples include collaborations with De Wilg, the Flower Museum in Aalsmeer, and the Erasmus Medical Centre. We also host company outings, birthday celebrations, and hen parties, always tailoring the experience to the interests and needs of the participants.

Our programme includes:

  • Japanese Cooking and Baking – exploring the harmony of flavour, form, and mindfulness in Japanese cuisine, from matcha sweets to vegan sushi.
  • Origami – the calming art of paper folding, where precision meets peace.
  • Kintsugi – the Japanese technique of repairing ceramics with gold, celebrating resilience and the beauty of imperfection.
  • Shodō (Japanese Calligraphy) – graceful expression through brush and ink, cultivating presence and focus.
  • Sumi-e (Ink Painting) – learning to paint with simplicity and intention, creating timeless black-ink compositions.
  • Martial Arts and Movement – accessible workshops inspired by Japanese budō traditions, emphasising confidence, respect, and unity. Among our initiatives is a self-defence series in Utrecht Overvecht for women with a migration background.
  • Retro Gaming Events – exploring the cultural history of games and their aesthetic value, combining play with conversation and community.

We ask only for a small contribution to cover materials and are always grateful for voluntary donations to support our foundation’s educational and cultural work.

If you would like to invite us for a workshop or discuss possibilities for your organisation or event, please contact us — we are happy to create a bespoke experience that suits your audience and aims.
